A trip to spend a bit of time with mama - #5 Cracow
Cracow or Kraków (Kra-koov) in Polish was the shortest city stop on this trip. I have a bit of bad luck with Cracow - I've been to this city at least 10 times, starting with school trips when I was a kid, but somehow I always ended up not seeing as much as I wanted. Next time, for sure...
Cracow, population 804k, is the second most populous city in Poland after Warsaw. The tram network is 103 km long (system length) and has 160 stops.
The main train station.
The old (unused) building of the main station (Kraków Główny).
A blue Lajkonik tram. The Lajkonik is an unofficial symbol of Cracow. It has something to do with Tatars.
Tourists
The Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) at the Main Square (Rynek Główny).
St. Mary's Basilica (Kościół Mariacki).
Church of Saints Peter and Paul
The Wawel Royal Castle. During the German occupation of Poland, the castle was the seat of Governor-General Hans Frank. Over 4 million people were murdered under his jurisdiction. He was tried and hanged for his crimes in Nuremberg, in October 1946.
One of the towers of the Wawel Castle (Lubranka or Senators Tower).
My favourite photo of Cracow: people riding bikes on a bridge over the Vistula river, with the Wawel castle in the background.
